Leadership/Volunteer Information

Leadership Roles

Swim team parents play a crucial role in the success of swim meets and the overall team experience. Parent volunteers can help with group activities, fundraising, swim meet planning, and more. Many volunteer positions are available, and most don't require prior experience.

If you are interested in a leadership role, please let us know by emailing the Board of Directors at cgbdpresident@cgbdswim.org

Officials

A swim meet requires several types of officials to ensure fair and safe competition. These officials include the Referee, Starter, Stroke and Turn Judges, and Administrative Officials. Some meets may also utilize Chief Judges, Timing Judges, and Meet Directors, among others.

Here's a breakdown of the key roles:

  • Referee:
  • The referee is the chief official and has ultimate authority over the meet, ensuring it's run according to the rules.
  • Starter:
  • The starter is responsible for starting each race, often using a microphone and a series of commands.
  • Stroke and Turn Judges (S&T):
  • These officials monitor swimmers' strokes, turns, and finishes to ensure they comply with the rules.
  • Administrative Officials (AO):
  • AOs handle the administrative aspects of the meet, including registration, results, and data management.
  • Chief Judge:
  • At championship meets, the Chief Judge coordinates the Stroke and Turn Judges and helps communicate disqualifications.
  • Timing Judges:
  • These officials are responsible for operating the timing equipment and recording times.
  • Meet Director:
  • The meet director handles the overall organization of the event, including facility arrangements and invitations.
